Making Content Isn't Cringe - It's Art 🎨
In fact, it's actually quite fun. You know what is cringe? Ignoring content altogether, or thinking that just because you posted once or twice about your song that the world is going to bow on its knees for you.
This is the topic that never ends. If I had a nickel every time I spoke about why artists need to be on social media, I'd be a rich man. Every time I think artists are finally starting to get it, I have a client or a collaborator who fights me on it. These people have built up walls against social media because they think they have to be one of those influencers dancing around on camera like an idiot.
Here's the truth: you are your own creative director. You don't have to do anything you don't want to do or anything that is unnatural or doesn't fit your brand. Creating content is art. It truly is - it's its own art form! And it's an extension of YOU.
Just because you see other artists out there going viral from some stupid video they made doesn't mean that's the only way to be successful, and it surely doesn't mean you have to copy them. Think about it like this: if you're a rap artist and you see Taylor Swift blowing up, does that mean you need to switch your style to Rock/Pop/Country to be a successful artist? NO. So why would you think you have to do the same thing with social media?
If you like nature, and your music has vibes and lyrics that mix well with walking through the woods or sitting on a grassy hill, why not record a video of yourself singing or performing in that setting? If you are super passionate about fishing or skiing or cooking, why not show fans an inside look of you being human?
All people care about is authenticity. Just be yourself, whatever that means. But don't forget that if you're not posting about your art, you're severely limiting the amount of people who are going to hear about it. And I'm not just talking about potential fans, I'm talking about talent buyers, festival promoters, and record label executives. EVERYBODY IS ONLINE. So you need to be too, if you truly care about being successful with your craft.
Because this topic is on repeat for me, I made a short PDF guide that offers five ideas for anti-cringe content. You can download it here: The Racket House - Anti-Cringe Content.pdf
